Entries For The 2018 FNB Wines2Whales Have Sold Out
Press Release / 05.09.2018
The event’s Managing Director Michael Flinn announced today that the “full house” sign had gone up yesterday evening.
“Now all our attention is on presenting an excellent event. It is the 10th running of the FNB Wines2Whales and we plan to make it a memorable one.”
There has been a lot of work done on the route this year with new singletrack sections on every day. “The KROMCO-PERI Bike Park on Stage 2 has also been redesigned to commemorate the 10th anniversary,” said Flinn.
The race will finish in the heart of Hermanus at the iconic Marine Hotel for the first time – one of the best whale-watching spots on the entire coast. An aerial survey was conducted last week for the Mammal Research Institute Whale Unit in which a record 1347 Southern Right Whales were counted in the Hermanus area.
“Hopefully, there’ll still be some whales frolicking in the bay,” said Flinn.
The race will also make a bit of history. The elite women mountain bikers will be taking part in the opening Chardonnay event from October 26 to 28. They will have their own batch, which will be the first to set off each morning.
The elite men and Mixed category will race in the third event, the Shiraz, from November 2 to 4. The Pinotage will take place between those events, from October 29 to 31.
In another innovation, some teams will take place in all three – a challenge appropriately called the Jereboam.
Flinn will be riding the Pinotage and said: “I am looking forward to getting together with all the other riders and enjoying the camaraderie and the great trails that the FNB Wines2Whales team have developed over the years.”
