| Using the Digital Photo Sales System |
| How do I find the picture I want? |
Click on the gallery names to see the image thumbnails. (These are shown 20 to a page and there may be several pages in each gallery). Look through the gallery thumbnails to find your picture. |
| Can I search for my picture by race / bib number? |
This is available on some events, you simply enter your number into the search box. |
| I know my picture was taken but I can't find it? |
We put up all the available pictures of saleable quality. If yours isn't there it means the picture taken wasn't up to scratch (even professional photographers edit out some poor shots!). Or it might be that the picture was taken by a different photographer and not by us! |
| Buying a Picture |
| How secure is the card payment system? |
Very secure. Our payment provider PayPal is used by thousands of businesses and millions of customers globally. They provide a secure, fast, no-hassle transaction system and there is no need for you to register with them. |
| Can I return a picture for a refund? |
No, a digital file is a non-returnable product. Once it's been purchased you can return it and still keep it, by making multiple copies. |
| I bought the wrong picture. Can I replace it with the correct one? |
No, for the same reason as above. When you buy a picture we show the image thumbnail on your basket as a final check, but it's up to you to be sure you have the right picture. |
| My picture has not arrived? |
It does not arrive, it's an instant download from the web page! We only sell digital images. |
| Digital Files and Prints |
| Why can't I buy a print directly from you? |
We've tried this in the past, but found more and more customers were asking for digital images. A digital service also allows us to keep the costs down and there many other advantages. |
| What are the advantages? |
- Lower prices - Quicker delivery - Make as many prints as you like, whenever you like - Share pictures more easily (e.g. by email) - Use the picture in more ways (e.g. home pages, screen savers, online photo galleries etc.) - Digital photography is taking over from film fast, so you may as well get used to it! |
| How do I get a print from the digital image? |
It's easy! All High Street photo processors now produce top quality prints from digital files. Instead of taking a negative in simply give them the image on CD or any other media (memory stick, photocard etc.). To save a trip to the shops you could use one of the many website based photo-print services. These allow you to email the digital image and your prints come back in the post. |
| Is it expensive to get prints from the digital files? |
No, reprints from digital files are inexpensive and cost no more than reprints from traditional negatives. Prices vary but you can find services offering 6x4" prints for as little as 6p each. (If you use an online print service there will be a postage charges.) |
| Can I get prints of any size from the digital file? |
No, the size of print you can produce (to an acceptable quality) depends on the size of the digital file you have. This can get complicated, but generally the bigger the file, the bigger the print you can take from it. We use this to determine our prices - see the next section. |
| Picture Pricing |
| What's the difference between the 2 types of digital files available? |
| Regular |
- They are for computer and web use and are NOT suitable for printing. - You download them instantly from the confirmation web page (or confirmation email) once payment is cleared. |
| Hi-Res |
- These are the photographers original images taken directly from the camera used to take the shot. - They are suitable for producing prints of at least 6"x4" in size. - You download them instantly from the confirmation web page (or confirmation email) once payment is cleared. |
| Using Your Pictures |
| What can I do with the digital images? |
As long as it's for your own personal use, and not for any commercial activity, you can use them as you wish. This might include: - Making online photo-albums - Emailing them - Use on your own web page - Use as wallpaper or screensavers on your computer |
| Do I own the copyright? |
No, the copyright and all intellectual property rights remain with the photographer. You can't use the image (whole, in part or manipulated) for any commercial purpose or for display or publication, other than on your own personal web page without the express written permission of the photographer. (When you buy an image you agree to these Terms and Conditions.) |
| Technical Troubles |
| The basket isn't working correctly? |
Our basket, like many on the internet, uses 'cookies'. If you have cookies disabled it may cause the basket to work incorrectly. We have tried to implement the basket using other methods also, but if you are experiencing problems this is the most likely cause. Please contact us if you are unable to order your pictures and we will attempt to solve your problem or enable the manual purchase of your pictues. |
| When I use the view button the picture runs off the bottom of my screen? |
The image we show is the actual one you can buy as the 'Small' version and if it's a portrait (upright) image and you have a small screen or screen resolution this can happen. Unfortunately, we can't add a scroll bar to these image windows, so there is nothing we can do about it. However, only a small section off the bottom of the image will be missing, and you can see the full image on the thumbnail. |
| When I try to download the file(s) my computer will only let me save it as a bitmap file. How do I save the jpeg version? |
This is a problem with Internet Explorer on your computer. The most likely cause is that your 'Temporary Internet Files Cache' is full. Use Tools>Internet Options>General and delete the temporary internet files. This may take some time, but once it's done you should be able to save the image file as a jpeg. (If not email us and we'll try to help.) |
| When I go through to the PayPal payment page there is an error. |
It's just possible the PayPal system has a technical problem at that time. (It's very reliable, but some technical problems can occur on every website.) Leave it a while and try again. If it's still not working please make a note of the error message and contact us immediately. |
| The image file supplied is bigger/smaller than expected. Why? |
All the technical data relating to image file sizes and dimensions are approximations and for general guidance only. Many factors affect these and they can vary considerably. However, the image files supplied will be suitable for the purposes we've specified. |
