I got into this having done a few corporate events (Challenger). A colleague then introduced me to the Salomon 1-day. Since then I've done a variety races as a solo, pair, or part of a team. Can't decide which I prefer!
After success with Team "Taking the Pith", "Tea & Medals" was formed specifically to train for - and then complete - the Wilderness ARC. In 2007 I'm now racing full time with "SleepMonsters.com" in the 1-day ACE race series and Rat Race series.
I'm getting obsessed about light-weight gear! Still so much to learn! (and shiny kit to buy!) |
| |
| Best AR discipline | Night nav |
| Worst AR discipline | Kayaking ...but I have just been bought a shiny new boat and moved to the harbourside, so maybe I'll get better. |
| AR ambitions | Complete a (proper) race abroad |
| AR bugbear | Camping - I just loath it! |
| AR best moment | Realising that doing an event every weekend is the easiest way of training |
| AR worst moment | Becoming hypothermic on *that* Blue Eskimo in Ullswater |
| My AR best results | Rat Race 2006 series winners, 2nd in 2008. Winners: Bristol 2008, 2nd Brighton & Edinburgh 2008. |
| ACE 1-day series 2008: team winners |
| ACE XX Series Winners 03/04 |
| Wilderness ARC 2006: finisher |
| Not being first to leave on SAS Jungle: are you tough enough? |
| My next AR events | Long Mynd Hike |
| Wilderness ARC ...if it runs again |
| ACE Races |
| Rat Races |
| Dusk 'til dawn |
| Favourite AR race | Rat races |
| Favourite piece of kit | Bungie, zip ties and poly pipe for towing on mountain bikes |
| Advice(tip) for other racers | After marking up your map, cross-check it against another competitor's |
