Scuba diving clashed with being Mum so I swapped the cold murky waters of the English Channel for running shoes and trained for a triathlon. An article on AR in a running mag led to marshalling a Blue Eskimo race and I was hooked.
It’s great to escape London at weekends for a jog and gentle bike ride in the sunshine with friends!
I’ve competed in ACEs, Blue Eskimo, Solomon, Trailplus, QuestARS, KIMM, LAMM and High Peak Mountain Marathon. |
| |
| Best AR discipline | Hills, getting lost |
| Worst AR discipline | finding time to train, downhill MBR |
| AR best moment | I stood in for an injured SWART at the last minute and we came 3rd in a v. competitive Exmoor ACE 2002 – the whole race was excellent. |
| AR worst moment | Realising 5 mins into a 30hr Blue Eskimo race, that blister-inducing walking boots weren’t the best choice of trail running shoe. |
| My AR best results | ACE XX 2003/4 overall 1st (with Team Orange) |
| KIMM 2003 Long Score 61st out of 245 (with James Hogg) |
| ACE 1 day series 2004 4th overall (with Dave Smith and Paul) |
| ACE 2 day 2002 Exmoor 3rd team (with SWART) |
| My next AR events | 2007 - an injury from 3 yrs ago has slowly ground me to a halt so taking a year out to recover. Oh joy! |
| Favourite AR race | Salomon Sept 2002 Scotland |
| Favourite piece of kit | an excellent navigator |
| Advice(tip) for other racers | Have a mantra; e.g. 'strong and fast', 'I love hills' to keep you going on the tough bits |
