From teenage years I have had a passion for hoofing around the mountains with a large rucksack. In late 90's ran several long summer expeditions to Spitsbergen & Greenland; ski touring, pulking, first-ascent bagging. This evolved to setting up and running commercial trekking adventures in 1999 and 2000.
Since 2000 conformed to "getting a proper job" so got into mountain biking, trailquests and adventure racing to balance things up. Consider myself as an adventurer who does races, rather than a true racer. Much prefer courses on the fells & mountains to rural rights-of-way and fire-roads. Am most competitive over rough terrain or in bad conditions. Says something my background I think!
Have greatly enjoyed Ace Races over many years, but may be backing away from so much racing to concentrate more on adventures. Racing is great, but it's not the same as being out there truely on your own.
