Discovered adventure racing in 1998 when I followed up a 4 line classified ad by Phil Humphreys in an outdoor magazine. Got hooked after performing surprisingly well in the night nav stage, despite never having done any orienteering before, even in daylight. [Took me 15 races to discover it was beginner's luck.]
I've competed in over 15 ACE races, mainly in the solo class, but also, relatively successfully, as part of a mixed pair. Have also done a few Quest races, more recently several open5s. Done one team event (but you're really doing things as a solo), namely the Western Isles Challenge (1999) and would like to compete in more team / mixed pair events if I ever get fit again. Just about recovered from sore achilles - so still somewhat short on running fitness.
I really enjoy the atmosphere at adventure races and have also been marshal in several ACE races, open5/12/24, the Ratrace, and the World Champs. After the latter all races seem very short now...
