As it turns out, it was a combination of dumb luck and the need to find something bigger than my mundane existance that lead me to adventure racing. I plod along at running races from 10ks to marathons (I'm built for endurance, not speed), but my real love is the bike. AR was an ideal way to combine these disciplines, and add paddling and climbing in the mix.

Things I love about AR:

- showing up to work Monday morning with road rash, bruises, and other battle trophies.

- pushing myself past all preconceived limits

- making great, life-long friends

- watching my friends and family shake their head in disbelief while I entertain them with race stories

- crossing the finish line hand in hand with my team

Best AR disciplineMountain biking
Worst AR disciplineWhitewater anything
AR ambitions5 to 7 day expedition races
AR bugbearLosing confidence in myself
AR best momentRevoking the map from the color-blind guy and leading my team out of last place to a mid-pack finish
AR worst momentHaving to short course the 2003 Superior Challenge
My AR best results1st in the Northstar AR 2004 series
4th in the 2005 Michigan Coast to Coast 3 day
My next AR events2005 Superior Challenge 12 hour
2005 Wild AR 24 hour
2005 Driftless Zone
Favourite AR raceThe first one - it was magic and I was hooked
Favourite piece of kitIt's all about the bike
Advice(tip) for other racersWhen choosing an inflatable kayak, make sure you get one that doesn't leak. It makes for a really long paddle.
