All teams have arrived in Medellín

All teams have arrived in MedellínBy Jacqueline Windh

Wednesday September 19th, 10 pm

Photo is of Teva-La Pinilla’s captain Antonio de la Rosa, who went out for an evening jaunt to the supermarket to buy sandwiches for his team-mates, and found himself at a free tasting pairing Colombian chocolates with wine!

The countdown is on! The last international team to arrive, USA’s Team Sole, has just arrived.

The race format will be similar, but not identical, to that of last year’s competition – a 3-day, fast-paced staged race. The route will take advantage of the seven hills within and surrounding the city of Medellín (the “7 Cerros” that give the race its name), so competitors can expect some good thigh-burn as they ascend the various hills on bike and on foot... over and over again.

As usual, race directors Jorge Diego Llano and Luisa Fernanda Ríos have everything amazingly organized and under control. This is especially incredible considering that, aside from the three-day adventure race, this event also includes races on the weekend in the disciplines of mountain biking, trail running, orienteering and inline skating. Thousands of participants of all ages, coming from Medellín and the surrounding regions, are expected to take part in these races. The entire event has strong support from the local government, aiming both to promote Medellín internationally through the adventure race, and to promote health and fitness in the local population through the single-discipline races.
