The Coastal Challenge 2018 has come to an end, a spectacular close to 230 kilometers of and struggle. Today’s route was 22.5km, a circuit from the camp that took runners along the course of a river in the forest to cross a waterfall in a technical section of giant and slippery rocks.

Leaving the waterfall competitors took a gravel road down to Playa San Josesito, where the toure began the 10km return to the finish. This last section was a combination of sand, rivers and trails leading competitors to Drake where they ended the competition.

Tom Evans and Hayden Hawks ran together again and Evans achieving a new record of 21h: 44m: 11s. Hawks finished the standings just 4m: 25s behind Evans.  Mike Wardian finished in third position, closing the main podium for team Hoka One One.

Costa Rican runner Erick Agüero took fourth place overall today, passing Neruda Cespedes who had a spectacular fall at the waterfall.

Cespedes managed to finish the stage and was taken to a medical facility for review and assessment which confirmed that is out of danger. Cespedes is the second Costa Rican in the standings, a scant minute and a half behind Agüero. This is the fourth Coastal Challenge for Neruda and he was very close to achieving "first Costa Rican" this year.

Among the women, the Dutch runner Ragna Debats clinched an undisputed first place, also setting a new overall record with a cumulative time of 26:14:39. In the last stage Ragna ran alongside her  rivals, the Portuguese Ester Alves and American Suzanna Guadarrama.

Tom Evans said he wanted to achieve a record that not even he could break, and seems to have done it. The list of pro-athletes who want to come and participate in the 15th edition of TCC has already begun to grow and the organization expects a very special edition for next year, with big surprises, including a possible significant change in the route which will take competitors to territories in the high mountains of the country.

Once again TCC challenged competitors from around the globe who have found in the mountains of Costa Rica an experience of personal growth, both physical and spiritual, and they are invited to a new experience next year in February 2019.
