Length: 73 km
Location: Lake District
The original 10Peaks™ event is set in the stunning Lake District National Park, also known as The Lakes. It features large U-shaped valleys, many of which are now filled with Lakes giving the area its name. The Lake District is home to England’s highest peak, Scafell Pike which is 978m above sea level.
Running in the Lake District can be technical and challenging for all and is perhaps most suited to hardened fell runners – having said that we have had more than one Bob Graham Round member fail to complete the 10Peaks™ Lakes full course in the allocated time. This just goes to prove that excellent navigational skills and favourable weather conditions are key components for a successful 10Peaks™ attempt.
The Lakes is known for its unpredictable weather. Conditions can change in a matter of minutes and what started off as a perfect day can end with high winds and torrential rain – there is a reason for there being so many Lakes in the Lake District!
