COURSE DESCRIPTION

All runs will take place on the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail at Wilson State Park. The 100 has the most elevation gain and loss of any 100 miler in Kansas! If you’re looking for a challenging course in the “flatlands” you’ve found it. The trail is easy to follow rugged single track with very few trees/wooded areas. Beautiful views of Wilson State Park and Wilson Lake are plentiful.

KS 100 Milers Elevation Gain Stats

Hell Creek 100 - 10,120 feet

Hawk Hundred - 9,360 feet

Heartland 100 - 6,000 feet

KRT Extravaganza 100 - 1,541 feet

Prairie Spirit 100- 1,541 feet

Honey Badger 100- 1,332 feet

The races will consist of 20(ish) mile loops – one loop for 20 milers, three loops for 100k runners, 5 loops for 100 milers, and 7 loops for 140 milers. Switchgrass is purely single track so we will start the runners about ½ from the trailhead to give everyone a chance to spread out. After that it is 100% trail-running.

The course will be heavily marked with ribbons and wrong way signs. This is an extremely easy course to follow. Getting off course should be of no issue.

Aid Stations – There will be two aid stations. One you will have the opportunity to visit twice per loop. The main aid station will be at the start finish and the other will be around 10.5 miles and 16.75 miles of the loop. Both will include your typical aid station items – food (vegan options), water, soda, and electrolyte drink. Both aid stations will have some hot food items at night as well. There will be 1 unmanned water station at mile 5. We will do our best to take care of you, however this is an ultra-marathon…you won’t be pampered. Please make sure you are adequately prepared.

Drop Bags- Drop bags are allowed at both manned aid stations.

Pacers – Pacers are allowed on THE PURE HELL 140 and Hell Creek 100 miler ONLY. Pacers are allowed after 3 laps, approximately 100k. No muling (carrying ANYTHING for your runner). Pacers can start only at MANNED aid stations. Pacers are not allowed to grab something at an aid station and take it to their runner ON COURSE. Runners must carry 100% of their food, drink, and gear. If they want something from the aid station, they MUST make the trip to the aid station. There are no exceptions to this rule and breaking it will result in disqualification.

Crew is only allowed at MANNED aid stations. Crew may not assist runners anywhere except for the two manned aid stations. Any assistance outside of the main aid station will result in disqualification – no warnings, no exceptions

You MUST CROSS the finish line every loop.

Cutoffs –

.

100k – 7:00 AM Sunday (24 hours)

100-mile - 2:00 PM on Sunday (32 hours)

PURE HELL 140 – 7:00 PM Sunday (50 hours)

This is a state park and you will need a day pass or an annual pass. If you don't have one, you’ll likely be fined. You can purchase one on the way into the park.

Minimum age of 21 years old to race.

You may change to a different distance prior to Sept. 14th. If you change to a cheaper distance you will not be refunded for the difference. If you change to a more expensive distance you must pay the difference.

If you cannot attend please let us know at least three days prior to race start and we will take your name off of the entrants list/results. If not prior to three days of race start you will be listed as DNS on the results.

We DO NOT allow runners to drop distances after starting the race. If you start the 100 miler, you either complete it, or you DNF. Same goes for 100k participants in regards to dropping to the 20 mile. THE RACE YOU START IS THE RACE YOU MUST FINISH.

If you litter you will be disqualified.

If you cut the trail you will be disqualified.

No whining or complaining. ;).

Race Cancellation – In the event the race is cancelled due to severe weather, or other uncontrollable circumstances we cannot offer refunds. Everything is typically already paid for at this point. That being said, it is highly unlikely, and we will do everything in our power to make sure the race happens. If the trail is in a condition (muddy, etc.) where running on it would do unnecessary harm to the trail, we will find an alternate route.

NO REFUNDS
