Get Properly Equipped for the Springtime Outdoor Life

Press Release / 17.03.2017

With Easter fast approaching the great outdoors is beckoning and to fully appreciate the British countryside the right gear is essential.

Whether you're trekking in the Scottish Highlands, exploring the Peak Park or mountain biking in the South Downs, the experts at premium outdoor gear specialists, Extremities, say paying attention to head, hands and feet is the key to covering all bases.

Head
A waterproof, windproof cap will stand you in good stead, no matter what the weather throws at you. Try one that folds down to fit in your pocket, like the Extremities Mistaya cap – stylish, lightweight and waterproof with a luxurious hi-loft fleece lining. Ear flaps can be worn down or fixed up and a drawcord adjuster at the back ensures a secure fit.

The one-size Mistaya cap looks equally good on men or women and comes in Grey or Purple. Retails at £28 with matching gloves also available.

Hands
The lightweight, windproof technical fleece Velo gloves with grippy palms are a great all-rounder for cycling and walking in cooler or windy weather. The close fit increases feel and the dotted grip palm extends along the length of the first two fingers - perfect for brake levers. Reinforcement around the thumb crotch protects from wear when using with walking poles and the cuff closure uses a one-hand pull.  The black Velo gloves come in sizes S-XL and retail at £32.

Meanwhile, the thermal Sticky Waterproof Power Liner gloves are ideal for keeping in a pocket or rucksack in case the weather turns cold or wet. They are made from a lightweight, stretch fabric providing plenty of dexterity with the bonus of a waterproof layer inside to keep hands dry, plus a grippy silicone print palm and cosy fleece lining. Available in black in adult sizes S-XL, they retail at £22 per pair.

Feet
A great addition to any walker's kit is a pair of gaiters to cover the upper boot, ankle and lower leg - durable and practical, they protect your clothing and keep you dry.

The highly versatile GORE-TEX® Novagaiters are designed to fit virtually any boot. They have a host of features including incredibly durable 1000 denier Cordura at the ankles, replaceable, highly durable 'Polytex' underfoot straps, stainless steel fittings and front entry Velcro seals to prevent water penetration. The black Novagaiters are available in S/M or L/XL at £35 per pair.

For seasoned walkers who prefer a shorter option the Tay Ankle Gaiters offer fully waterproof GORE-TEX® protection, durable underfoot straps, elasticated grip around the ankle to hold in place and a front velcro fastening making them easy to get on and off. Available in black in S/M or L/XL they retail at £25 per pair.

The excellent value Extremities Trekagaiters are full-length, waterproof and breathable in lightweight ripstop X Dry fabric, offering great protection in wet and muddy conditions. They have durable underfoot straps, elasticated grips around the calf, elasticated drawcords at the top and front velcro fastening making them easy to get on and off. The black gaiters are available in S/M or L/XL they retail at £22 per pair.

Finally, a professional and practical addition to any outdoor venture are trekking poles from Extremities sister brand Terra Nova.  Make sure you find the right one for your needs: from the extra stability of the Adventure Tourer (£23 each) and compact folding features of the Trail Elite (£32 each) to the multi-purpose Unipod which doubles as a camera mount (£32 each). Poles are sold individually.

Extremities director, Carolyn Budding explains: "Just a few essentials in your rucksack can mean the difference between a great day and one that could be spoiled by unpredictable conditions.  When we are properly equipped for the outdoors, there are no distractions and we can truly enjoy the countryside to the full."
