Utö is where the whole swimrun movement started and where a late night bet was made. It is an island in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago almost 90 minutes from Stockholm. It is an island with a year-round population and with a great hotel, Utö Värdshus – our home away from home. In the end of May you can detect the beginning of summer, most of the years. Flowers are blooming, the grass is green and trees are coming to life after a long winter.

The island of Utö has been populated for many centuries and was a booming mining community several hundreds of years ago. Lithium was found here for the first time. The island has everything; beautiful forests, cliffs, open pasture land, big hills, rough water and very protected waters.

The weather in this period can really be anything from a nice summer day to a cold, hard day out. Be mentally prepared for the worst and enjoy the best. The water is clear and crisp with some sections around 10 degrees C, therefore none of the swim sections are very long. Dress smart!

World Series:

This is a challenging yet beautiful race. The varied course, the water temperature and the very strong group of participants will challenge everyone to put in their best performances.

The running is mostly trail running and the sections are very varied. They are on dirt roads, single tracks, cliffs and rocks, completely off-road and with some challenging short, steep sections to climb. Those who will manage the whole course will have a magical experience.

The open water swim sections are many, most of them are relatively short. You will find out quickly if you are good at transitions. Some Swims are protected and some are very exposed. Prepare for some rock n roll swimming.
