New Abu Dhabi Race is Popular

Rob Howard / 06.08.2007
There has already been a strong entry for the new Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge, which is due to start on December 9th.

With a prize purse of 200,000 US dollars on offer, and the opportunity to race across mountains, seas and desert that are all virgin territory for adventure racing, some of the world’s best teams are among the 20 entries already received.

These include World Champions Team Nike, Orionhealth.com of New Zealand and a strong Scandinavian entry with Bjurfors Adventure Racing, Halti and Lundhags Adventure all planning to be on the start line. Maybe they want to get away from the Swedish winter for some sunshine!

There are only 30 places available in this inaugural race, and so teams still thinking of entering are advised to apply quickly. (The race is for mixed teams of 4 and the 3500 Euro entry fee includes 3 nights at hotels before and after the race and the use of sea kayaks.)

The race is organised by Saga d’Aventures (who recently staged the Saab Salomon Mountain-X) on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and they promise a tough and technical event with some spectacular locations.

The is a web page with basic information here and the full race website should be online shortly.
