10 days left till the start of the Nordic Islands Adventure Race "Valhalla"
In July 13.-20. Nordic Islands Adventure Race "Valhalla" will take its competitors on an epic 667km journey from Åre, Sweden to Ålesund in Norway. Along the way, athletes will cross the international border, Scandinavian mountain range, countless gorgeous valleys as well as number of truly spectacular fjords. With its international field of competitors, this race is part of the Adventure Racing World Series.
The race will start on Saturday, June 13th, at 18:00 at the summit of Åreskutan - home to Sweden's largest ski resort. Here, 10 teams from 7 nations will embark on a quest that will test their endurance, skills, teamwork and perseverance. However insane that might sound, they all know what they signed up for. They do it to challenge themselves physically and mentally beyond of what is considered possible.
Along the way, athletes will navigate through number of checkpoints, only using map and compass. They will do so while mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, packrafting and rafting - and if that wasn't enough - there will be plenty of thrilling rope sections.
As custom to the sport of adventure racing, they will not only battle the other teams but also sleep deprivation and an extreme fatigue. Lastly, the always unpredictable weather might shake things up as snowfalls could appear in the higher sections of the course.
