Good news for the KronplatzKing: As the COVID-19 infection numbers are significantly decreasing in Italy and especially in South Tyrol as well as national relaxed covenants regarding the former lockdown situation have been introduced, national authorities have released governmental guidelines which should lead towards a restart of the national mountain bike season. “The Italian Cycling Federation has already revised the imposed requirements and is currently waiting for confirmation. We will fulfil all requirements and can therefore confirm the 2020 KronplatzKing and keep on planning our event”, explains Maurizio Kastlunger, head of the organising committee.

As a result, the spectacular one-day mountain bike challenge through the South Tyrolean alpine world will take place on August 30, 2020, and therefore mark the opening of the Italian MTB season. “It was important for us to contribute so all mountain bikers get something back what the Corona crisis has taken from them: a goal, a perspective. That's why we gave everything we could to make it happen,” adds Kastlunger.

The fifth edition of the KronplatzKing will provide racers the possibility to chose from two different routes. The “KINGMarathon” leads over 73 kilometres and 3,250 metres of climbing from start to finish while the “PRINCEClassic” is - featuring 49 kilometres and 2,160 metres of climbing - significantly shorter.

"The only difference compared to the last four years: the start of the race has to be staggered due to the COVID-19 pandemic in order to observe the governmental regulations."

Every start block will have a 15 minutes interval which allows everyone to enter the race according to the guidelines. The clock however will start for each individual as soon as racers pass the start line. In addition, race organisers are committed to measure each competitors temperature before entering the event area as a start will be forbidden with a temperature of 37.5 ºC+.

Every racer will also receive a buff which can be placed above nose and mouth during the start phase while an Odlo shirt of high quality will round out the starter package.
