Press Release / 25.08.2020
The 16th European Rogaining Championships were held in the Tukums and Engure municipalities of Latvia on 23rd August. Estonian and Russian teams came out as
the winners in the OPEN classes: The Estonian team ‘La sportiva’, Timmo Tammemäe and Sander Linnus, scored 457 points out of 485 possible and became the winners in the men’s class. They were also absolute winners of the Championships.
The Russian team ‘Team Blizzard’, Natalia Zimina, Igor, Manzhay and Oleg Kalinin, were the winners among the mixed teams in the OPEN class, while the Estonian team ‘1/2 16E’, Piibe Tammemäe and Hannula-Katrin Pandis, were the winning team in the women’s OPEN class. Ukrainian and Latvian teams were among the winners in other classes.
Out of nearly 750 competitors from 19 countries initially entered for the competition, only 518 from 11 countries could make it to the start line. With their commitment this year’s European Rogaining championships was able to take place and the medal winners were decided in all gender and age classes.
It’s a pity that the global political and epidemiological situation has had an impact on so many things and puts constraints on high-level international sports events. Though the organising was somewhat harder than usual due to the need to obtain permissions and follow all health safety precautions, it was the participants who had to face the most challenges, and thanks to them the championship was a success.
