The SWIMRUNMAN EMBRUN SERRE-PONÇON returns on 26-27 June 2021 with a major new feature: the first NIGHT SWIMRUNMAN course ever organised. With a night start at 11:00 pm at the foot of the Écrins National Park and in front of the immensity of the Serre-Ponçon Lake, this will be a date for a challenge that promises to be extraordinary.

Three courses including a new night format!

Embrun is a land of outdoor sports and moreover of swimrun. At an altitude of nearly 800m, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, and at the foot of the Écrins National Park and its countless peaks perched at over 2000m, the Serre-Ponçon lake is a veritable inland sea. Faced with this vast expanse of turquoise water, like no other, time seems suspended. The surrounding mountainous paths allow you to gain height to enjoy magnificent panoramas.

In 2021, the now usual SPRINT (11km) and CLASSIC (23km) formats will take rhythmical routes that will take advantage of the natural assets of the Region. At these two distances, which are the "standard" of SWIMRUNMAN® FRANCE events, a unique route will appear: the first NIGHT SWIMRUNMAN® (40km) never organized!

On June 26, 2021, at 11 p.m., the Embrun water park will offer its last moments of quietude to the 100 pairs present on the starting line before seeing them plunge into another world; that of darkness and penumbra. The Lake of Serre-Ponçon, its 80km of coastline and its majestic 124m dam will then become more than a mystery and opacity. All the participants will have to show courage and perseverance, or the quintessence of the swimrun, to reach the finish line and overcome this extraordinary challenge that will take them until dawn.

The expanse of water and the vertiginous walls will remind everyone how great, majestic and... dark Mother Nature is. In the dark of night, or in a fortuitous moonlight, only the reflective buoys (while swimming) and headlamps (while running) will light up runners left to their own devices in front of the immensity of the place.

Over a distance of 40km divided into 9 sections of SWIM (6.5km) and 10 sections of RUN (33.8km), the NIGHT SWIMRUNMAN® will remain forever as an unforgettable duo adventure between azure waters, green forests and darkness. Mythical.

With the NIGHT SWIMRUNMAN®, SWIMRUNMAN FRANCE will once again offer a new challenge to the growing swim run community - after its VERTICAL SWIMRUNMAN at the Great Lakes from Laffrey and ULTRA SWIMRUNMAN at the Gorges du Verdon.

700 Participants Expected And International Athletes

In 2019, all the courses were sold out several weeks before the date of the event and, without a doubt, this second edition should be sold out in its turn. More than 75 French Departments and 12 nationalities were represented in the last edition. The growing development of SWIMRUNMAN® FRANCE events and their ÖTILLÖ MERIT RACE label, which allows participants to score points towards qualification for the ÖTILLÖ World Championships, are helping to attract more and more French and international swimrunners.

Sunday 12 November, the appointment is given on www.swimrunman.fr to sign up for one of the legendary swim runs on the 2021 calendar. In view of the current context, the organisation provides individual cancellation insurance, to be taken out at the time of registration, to cover all eventualities in the event of postponement or cancellation.
