Banff Mountain Film Festival Launches New Film Programme for Jan 22-24th
Press Release / 19.01.2021
We may be locked down, but inspiration isn’t locked out! The Banff Mountain Film Festival UK & Ireland Tour is launching a brand-new film programme, taking place as a virtual event this weekend.
The exclusively virtual Purple Film Programme features new films from the most recent Banff Mountain Film Festivals, such as Myrtle Simpson: A Life on Ice, unearthing the story of this legendary yet little-celebrated Scottish explorer. And championing backyard adventure, Gone Tomorrow: Kentucky Ice Climbing follows a group of misfit adventurers as they find epic ice climbing in the most unlikely of places.
“We’re thrilled to offer an additional Banff show with the brand-new Purple Film Programme, delivered directly to your living room!” says tour director Nell Teasdale.
“For the ultimate in lockdown escapism and inspiration, the Purple Film Programme offers a night of incredible cinematography, award-winning films and adrenaline-fueled entertainment – to watch from the sofa!”
As well as adventure-packed films, viewers will also have access to Banff’s backstage zone, with a live prize draw for outdoorsy goodies, a kids’ area for young explorers, exclusive film-maker interviews and more.
“Grab the snacks, get your friends watching at the same time (in their houses) and don’t miss out on your chance to catch this exclusively virtual event,” finishes Nell.
The show starts on Friday 22 January and the viewing window is open for 72 hours. The films start at 7.30pm, with audience members invited to explore the virtual foyer from 6.30pm, where they can download the tour magazine, enter the prize draw and much more.
Film passes cost £10 - see www.banff-uk.com/vp for more information on this new programme, and also for passes to the Red Programme and the Ocean Film Festival.
Film highlights include:
ZEPPELIN SKIING
You’ve heard of heli-skiing, but what about skiing by airship? In a world-first, three free-skiers fly by Zeppelin to the Eastern Alps in Austria, to abseil, ski and snowboard on gnarly terrain. On this ground-breaking mission, every millimetre and gram will be the difference between failure and success…
MYRTLE SIMPSON: A LIFE ON ICE
Scottish adventurer Myrtle Simpson is a pioneer, mountain climber, polar explorer, writer and mother who was named by the National Geographic as one of four women who ‘defied expectations and explored the world.’ Blazing her own trail, Myrtle experienced places most people only dream about, while writing 13 books, collecting specimens for museum botanical collections and raising four children. Here, this unsung hero narrates the story of three of her most dramatic and significant expeditions.
