Burn Series Expands UK Adventure Racing
Press Release / 08.12.2022
Adventure Racing in the UK is going to survive and grow ... and Maria Leijerstam from the Burn Series is on a serious mission to ensure it does.
Maria has been running the Burn Series since 2010 in South Wales, which has provided races for families and juniors as well as experienced racers. She has now teamed up with (South East AR) run by Damon de Boor, Alex Egginton and Kane Magee to expand the Burn Series across the South of the UK.
Damon, Alex and Kane are experienced adventure athletes who have over 30 years of racing experience between them, and are now looking at developing some of the most innovative races in the UK.
This is already being demonstrated by the calendar of races appearing on the Burn Series website. https://burnseries.co.uk There will be more to come too!
Entries are now open for 2023 with EARLY BIRD DISCOUNTS available
In the coming years, the Burn Series will focus its efforts on a series of Adventure Races that cater for people of all abilities and ages. The Mini Burn is designed for families with adventurous and sporty children. There are no age limits and no experience required.
The Burn 2, as its name suggests, is a 2 hour gentle introduction to the sport for groups of friends or as a corporate team building day with minimal navigation.
Finally the Burn 6, 12 & 24 hour races are fully navigated races for more experienced races who are looking for longer challenges with plenty of surprises along the way. They are perfect training races for the European & World Series races, which have seen strong growth in the previous months.
Recently the first Burn 12 took place in Basingstoke run by Andrew Woodhouse. 30 intrepid racers braved the horizontal rain to complete what was a spectacular and challenging course. A race report is to follow.
Maria has been connecting with the Adventure Racing community in the UK to ensure there are no gaps and says, "I am working hard to ensure we have a fully connected adventure racing community in the UK”.
Forget governing bodies or formal structures, this is much more about providing timely exciting races that people want to do.
