The Most Popular Victorian Sprint Series Adventure Race Kicks Off This Sunday
Press Release / 03.05.2019
With close to ideal racing temperatures forecast for the coming weekend, Melbournian adventure racing crowds will shortly descend on the city's nearest adventure racing playground, Lysterfield Lake Park, in pursuit of adventure racing thrills on the most popular, Weekend Warrior-friendly Victorian event, Sprint Series Adventure Race.
Presenting both Classic and Novice course options, this 3 hour event provides an opportunity for head-to-head multisport racing with a navigation component for elite athletes, an introduction to adventure racing for beginners, as well as Family teams.
The location of the event – Lysterfield Lake Park, offers an exciting, dynamic and perfect terrain to stage a sprint adventure race with a variety of dedicated mountain bike trails, high quality mapped open bush and safe waterways.
In 2019 the action-packed course will consist of a total of 5 legs:
- On foot sprint orienteering on a detailed map specifically designed for this event;
- Two mountain bike legs along flowing single tracks and 4wd trails;
- A trekking leg with a few hills and cross-country orienteering to negotiate;
- A paddle leg on Lysterfield lake; and
- Advanced mountain bike legs for the first 15 fastest teams.
The field is solid, as always. Along with Australian AR legends Jarad Kohlar and Liz Dornom, there are a lot of first-timers from triathlon and mountain bike backgrounds, and some ‘returning from retirement’ athletes, such as Darren Clarke who might surprise everyone.
The race, which offers a total of $3,500 in prizes and give-aways, starts at 9 AM AEST.
A live-feed will be on our Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #sprintseriesAR.
