Banishing The Covid Race Blues in the Blue Mountains
Press Release / 30.09.2020
That’s a wrap on the Blue Mountains Adventure Race for 2020! After months of no events teams were chomping at the bit to race and enjoyed the diverse course on offer at Euroka Clearing.
A strong field of Classic and Novice teams trail ran, mountain biked and kayaked through the Blue Mountains National Park, flying down the Oaks Single Track, enjoying the scenic run around Red Hands Cave and paddling on the Nepean River. Even the cool and gusty conditions couldn’t put a dent in the smiles as teams streamed across the finish line.
Congratulations to all Classic team podium finishers. In the Mixed category ‘Trace of Nuts’ (Melissa & Luke Nuttall) were the first team home with ‘Easier Said than Run’ (Kerrie & Mark Hammond) and ‘Van Hinden Schliebmuskels’ (Jo Nevin & Graham Hand) rounding out the podium. ’12 Degrees Part 1′ and ’12 Degrees Part 2′ (Sally & Anna Hopwood and Di Clancy & Jessica Kirkham) completed the course in just over 4 hours to finish in front of ‘Not so Quick after Quarantine’ (Emma Inglis & Sandi Strickland) who came home 3rd in the Female category.
While for the Male teams ‘Hardtale’ (Aurelien Penneman & Steven Todkill) and ‘Belrose Bicycles’ (Chad & Ryan Armstrong) followed home ‘Tired and Unfit’ (Hugh Stodart & Serge Kurov) who had the quickest time of 2hrs, 51minutes & 47seconds. Congratulations to all those teams, your prizes will be emailed to you.
These teams might have been at the pointy end of the Classic course but there were plenty of other teams (Classic & Novice) who got out there, many for the first time, gave it their all and enjoyed a real adventure in the bush so congratulations to those teams as well! There were plenty of new comers to the sport who gave it their all and finished on a high.
A special shout out goes to our hard working volunteers and crew who lent a hand and helped make this event happen. We couldn’t do it without you.
