Testing Conditions for All the Teams at the Enoggera Reservoir
Press Release / 24.03.2021
That’s a wrap on the first Queensland event in the 2021 Maximum Adventure Race Series, held at Enoggera Reservoir this past weekend.
Despite the testing conditions which meant everyone was thoroughly soaked by the end of the event, there were plenty of smiles as teams crossed the finish line. It was a truly fantastic effort by all the Classic and Novice teams who were trail running, mountain biking and kayaking around the course. We think everyone who took part should consider themselves a winner for conquering the course considering the elements and the tough climbs that had to be tackled.
The category winners were:
In the Premier Mixed category the winners on the day were MyGCPhysio.com.au (Britt Carling & Gary Sutherland), who used their experience to come home in just over 2hrs 10mins once the bonus checkpoints were accounted for, and they claimed to be ‘ill-prepared’. Following them home in 2nd place were the Froggies (Maxence & Melanie Bugnot) and Tiger Art 2.0 (Pablo Martino & Leia Gall) rounded out the podium.
Lucky Kiwi (Mel Watson & Clare Conroy) crushed it in the Female category while it was tight for 2nd and 3rd with Team Team (Annelies Taske & Jessica Smith) coming home after Fluid Motion (Clare Rushby & Alison Daniel) but securing 2nd spot due to the time bonuses from the bonus checkpoints.
The fastest team on the day and winners of the Male category was Rogue Adventure (Liam St Pierre & Thor Harrison) in an incredible time of 2 hrs & 44 seconds. This was another team of experienced adventure racers using all their skills to take the win. Looking 4 the Finish Line (Darran Wallace & Michael Spence) were 2nd, beating home TBAR Adventurers (Richard Macavoy & Trent West).
A big congratulations to all teams, and especially to all the newcomers to the sport. We had plenty of first timers in the Classic course and heaps more in the Novice course. It wasn’t the easiest of conditions for those new to the sport (or even for the more experienced).
A big thank you to SEQ Water, Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and Walkabout Creek Adventures for their support of our Brisbane leg of the adventure race series.
A special shout out to the hard working volunteers who lent a hand despite the rain and helped make this event happen.
