Twenty Nationalities Line Up for the 2021 Swimrun World Championships
Press Release / 31.08.2021
On Monday 6th September Otillo Swimrun celebrates the 15th edition of the very first Swimrun race when the 2021 Swimrun World Championships takes place.
It started with a crazy bet in a bar between 4 friends and turned into a race in 2006 with nine teams taking part. For the 15th edition there will be 160 teams on the starting line (maximum number) from over 20 nations, all ready to take on the 75km course.
Organisers could not host the race in 2020 due to the pandemic and athletes are hungrier than ever to give it their all!
A lot has happened in two years and athletes have not stopped training, they’ve only become stronger …
Reigning champions Pontus Lindberg and George Bjälkemo will have tough competition from Adriel Young (an Aussie living in Gothenburg) & Oscar Olsson, who won the ÖTILLÖ Gothenburg race on 7th August.
Swedes, Fredrik Axegård & Lars Ekman who were runner’s up in 2019 and they will be hungry to snatch victory this time. French team Matthieu Poullain & Hugo Tormento are looking strong, and so are the French pairing of Guillaume Henneman & Remi Mariette. It would be great to see some central Europeans mixing it on the podium.
In mixed category Desirée Andersson is the reigning women’s world champion and as her team mate, Fanny Kuhn, is injured, she will race in the mixed category with Victor Dahl. They are looking strong and already have some victories under their belt this season! So do the Gothenburg duo Ulrika Eriksson & Peter Oom. Both teams have won the races they have entered so far this year, but they have not yet raced against each other!
In the women’s category there will be new teams at the top as both 1st and 3rd placed teams from 2019 are not racing. Former world champion Kristin Larsson is back racing with Helena Sivertsson and they will be an exciting team to follow.
One of Sweden’s biggest artists Petter is racing his 7th ÖTILLÖ! This time with Jonas Colting - the ex triathlete star and the only racer who has started ALL previous ÖTILLÖ editions!
ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship, can be followed live from start to finish on https://otilloswimrun.com/live starting 05:45 CET, Monday 6 September.
