Garden Route and Blackwaters River Lodge Host the Expedition Africa 120/60km Races

Press Release / 23.08.2022See All Event Posts Follow Event

The fourth leg of the ARWS – Africa Regional Series takes place this coming weekend, when the scenic Garden Route and Blackwaters River Lodge will host the top adventure racing teams in South Africa.

Blackwaters River Lodge is a magical piece of paradise, tucked away in a beautiful valley on the banks of the Goukamma River.  Set on several hectares of pristine gardens, it is surrounded by indigenous forest and offers peace, tranquillity, and the opportunity for complete relaxation. The lodge is conveniently situated just off the N2, between Knysna and Sedgefield, opposite the Buffels Bay turn off.  It is just 10 minutes from the quaint towns of Knysna and Sedgefield and 15 minutes from the friendly, Blue Flag, Buffels Bay bathing beach.

The venue offers a lovely restaurant which will be catering for all the teams and families over the weekend. This is a wonderful, family friendly, venue and families are invited to come and cheer on the teams as they finish on Saturday afternoon.

Merrell Songlines, Addicted2Adventure, Varicosis, Slowvelders and Danger Zone hold the top five positions on the Africa rankings, but a strong showing by Team Mountain Mammoth, Plett Adventure Racing or Team Terra Mater next weekend could see them break into the top five.

Race product sponsor, Revite, is sponsoring a Youth Team in the 120km distance event.  Tristan Brett and Ruben Venter, both 15 years old, are taking up the challenge of the longer distance race. Revite believes in a healthy body and mind and are supporting future adventure racers.

All the results for the top adventure racing teams in Africa get updated on the ARWS - Africa Regional Series rankings.  After the completion of the third event in the series, the Merrell Transkei Tuff in July, the 2022 rankings have been updated and can be viewed at https://expafrica.net/arws/

The 2022 ranks also indicate the best male and female teams of four and all pair combinations.

The leading mixed team of four will be crowned the African Adventure Racing Champions at the final event of 2022 in November in Clocolan, Free State, and they will also earn the coveted free entry spot for the World Championship 2023, which will be hosted in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

This weekend’s event brings over 120 athletes to the area and the following sponsors and partners are supporting the race for them.

The ARWS Africa Regional Series is sponsored and supported by Merrell, a true partner in adventure racing. Merrell shoes will be on display at the event and teams will be able to view, fit and purchase at the venue.

Stay tuned for updates on the event from Friday on the race social media channels and follow the event from 7am on Saturday, 27th August 2022.
