Looking for a Date?

With the international calendar increasingly crowded with major races it is getting harder and harder to avoid race dates clashing. Race organisers are sometimes limited in the dates they can choose (by logistics, weather or sponsorship issues) and last year finished with the unfortunate situation of the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge, XPD Portugal and the Oman Adventure all taking place around the same time.

It was looking like two to the bigger races in 2008 would clash too, with both Terra Traverse and the 2008 Adventure Race World Championship in Brazil expected to take place in late September ... until last week. Both have now (quietly) announced confirmed dates in October! Thankfully, not at the same time however.

Terra Traverse, the new stage race organised by Ian Adamson and Issac Wilson, will now take place from Oct. 4-10th in Quebec, and the ARWC 2008, hosted by EcoMotion Pro in Brazil will take place from Oct 30th to Nov. 9th. The exact venue for ARWC in Brazil is not confirmed and there is no website yet, but a brief announcement on the ARWorld Series website explained the dates had been moved due to elections on Brazil.

Although there is now some space between Terra Traverse and ARWC2008, the latter has moved uncomfortably close to XPD Australia. The Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge and the returning Explore Sweden race also still have to announce dates yet.

While it may present the very top teams who are looking for titles and prize money with dilemmas, the up side is that the international race scene is healthy and for teams looking to travel to a big race there is the choice of some fantastic races and a variety of very different destinations.
