The Promised Land Race
The Promised Land Ultra Marathon
Press Release / 10.12.2013
Now in its 7th year the Israel Ultra Marathon is run in alternate years in opposite directions. This year is an “up year” with the race starting in Jaffa Port in Tel Aviv and winding its way to Jerusalem.
A fully supported race with well stocked aid stations and marked trails, this race attracts runners from all over seeking an Ultra race with a drop dead gorgeous course. Historic Jaffa port in Tel Aviv is the start point from where runners run along the beach front up to the new trendy Tel Aviv port before turning East through the Yarkon Park and the start of the orange groves that line the river for the first 30km of the route. After the crusader and Ottoman Fortress of Tel Afek the route becomes slightly more hilly as the course winds along the boundary between the flat lands of the coastal strip and the start of the Jerusalem hills. Past forest planted by early settlers, through hills where Samson is purported to be buried, past Christian Monasteries, ancient synagogues and mosques the course finally brings runners into the heart of Jerusalem with the finish situated on a hill overlooking the old city.
Three different course lengths are offered. The 144km Ultra, which is the full course from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. A 54km, fairly fast flat Ultra, starting in Tel Aviv and finishing 54km later. A great race for a first Ultra. Finally a more hilly 70km again a great first Ultra or a training run for a longer Ultra in the summer.
