Press Release / 11.04.2014See All Event Posts Follow Event
The Bonaqua Action Sprint Series, which is full of speed, passion and adventure, is coming back again with three races in 2014, Repulse Bay April 6th, Discovery Bay April 27th, Sai Kung May 11th.

In the Repulse Bay course race, the participants start the race with a 500m beach run, pier wall jump into the chilly ocean followed by a 20 meter ocean swim all before running up the 430 meter Violet Hill from the backside thru single track bush. Then down steep technical trails, almost 2 km of river rock scrambling in Tai Tam Country Park mixed in on the 2nd half of the course.

The Action Asia Sprint race series started in 2004 and continued annually for 10 years. Especially for Bonaqua Action Sprit races, the organizers aim to explore variable and challenging off-road route to help the participants achieve a unique experience about trail running and hiking. In this race, the runners need to swim and hike, explore the country parks and valleys that are difficult to reach for visitors. Overall, it is an excellent chance for challenging yourself about the bravery and energy.

Elizabeth McDougall, in the women’s 50+ category, used to participate in all kinds of sports competition with her family, and is looking forward to the upcoming adventure race. “I keep on joining competitions after my husband passed away,” she says. When talking about the target for this race, as it is her first time to try such event combing swim and trail running, Elizabeth laughs, “Try to finish the race distance is my goal!”

Stephanie, a 23-year-old runner in the competition, has already joined several adventure events. She says, “Although many of my friends are worried about the safety issues, it is actually not that dangerous according to my experience,” For this competition, she saw the advertisement on the website and enrolled quickly as she thought it would be quite a challenging and exciting one compared to other games - despite her poor swimming skills.

Pedro Ribeiro, a past Action Asia winner of many different races, will appear again in the upcoming Action Sprint Series after a beak of several years. “I am working hard now to get my body back to the peak condition. Considering it always takes more time to recover, I don’t want to push myself as hard to win as don’t want to injury myself again in my intensive training leading up to the Action Sprint,” said Portuguese Ribeiro, a Macao resident.

The race is made up of 75% off road trail running and 10% small rocky sections, gullies and beach includes short 10m swim. Even though if you are not good at swimming, please do not hesitate in joining as you can bring your own flotation life vest for helping cope with the swimming part.

The race series is arranged as follows:
Race 1 – Apr 6, 2014 - 12 km – Repulse Bay, Hong Kong
Race 2 – Apr 27, 2014- 13 km – Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
Race 3 - May 11, 2014 - 12 km - Sai Kung, N.T.

The series could not happen without the kind support of Bonaqua, OtterBox, ActionX Store, OL&N, Discovery Bay, Oregon, Salomon, Salonpas, Oregon scientific, Around DB Magazine and Action Asia Foundation.
