Team Peak Performance is ready for new adventures and the Wenzhou Adventure Challenge will be the first test for this brand new team.
“We race in China to get experience – and everyone knows that racing is the best training.”
Wenzhou is the first test of strength for the team that consists of Mikael Lindnord, Staffan Björklund, Simon Niemi and Karen Lundgren. Team captain Mikael has a good feeling as the team stands on the start line for the first time together. “It feels really good, but we don't want to stress and we want to take advantage of the competition to build the team.” He said.
The Wenzhou Adventure Challenge is a competition in four stages over four days. This is a great contrast to the long expedition races, which are up to seven days non-stop, and which are the team’s main priority. This time the start is every morning, and every afternoon a stage winner crosses the finish line.
“These competitions are great for us as a team. It's like four small competitions and every night we can sit down and analyze the races. It is very developing.” Says Lindnord .
“It will be full speed from the start when the race kicks off on Saturday, and every second is precious. You have to go "all in" for 6-7 hours and it is tough. You have to be a little schizophrenic at these races, high speed all the time, but at the same time having restraint so you can keep it together all the way to finish line.”
Many of the world's best teams will race in Wenzhou and Lindnord is humbled by the task ahead.
“There has probably never been such a strong field at a competition in China before. There are many good teams from China, New Zealand and Australia, as well as some Swedish teams. We haven’t talked that much about results, but we’re aiming to make the best race we can. If we are the top ten, it's very good,” he said.
