Wenzhou Outdoor Challenge
Hanging Tough in Wenzhou
Team Peak Performance / 15.04.2014
Team Peak Performance (Sweden) debuted in the Wenzhou Outdoor Challenge, and this is their take on the final day of competition.
The last stage of Wenzhou Adventure Challenge was four hours of hard struggle for the team. The team finished on 8th place.
Staffan Björklund was fastest down the rope section in the kick off of the stage, and the team then went through a paddling section, a biking section and finished off with running. Their performance was a great achievement inthe circumstances as they had vomiting and bad stomach cramps throughout the stage. (Various other teams suffered in the same way.)
“It’s been a good day considering how we’ve felt. It’s been a real fighting effort from the whole team,” said Team Captain Mikael Lindnord.
The team kept their 8th position in the strong field. “We’re happy with our 8th place, considering our goal was to be in the top 10. I think we’ve delivered what we came for. The competition has been super tough and all the best teams have been here,” had added.
A lot of teams had to pull the pin and quit the race. A lot of people are sick and there is very little time for recovery. “You really have to be prepared to go all in, and that’s what we’ve done,” says Mikael.
The main goal with the trip to China was to start building the new team, to compete against the best and get to race in a super fast pace. These experiences will be truly needed when the team goes into the big goal for the season – The AR World Series and the World Championships.
“It’s been a good kickoff with the team. We’ve been working great together and that’s a good sign for the future. Despite a few setbacks, we’ve held a high level. I’m really satisfied.”
Team NZ Adventure (another new team), won the race after two stage wins, and two second places ahead of Team Red Bull (NZ), with Thule Adventure Team in third.
