Donegal Atlantic Way Ultra
Donegal Atlantic Way Ultra Race 2017
Press Release / 04.01.2017
Following the success of the inaugural event last year, the super-tough Donegal Atlantic Way Ultra Race will return on June 23rd 2017.
Solo riders and teams will compete over the 555km route, which follows the world famous Wild Atlantic Way coastline of Donegal. The rugged and enduring route takes in landmarks such as Malin head, Mamore Gap, Knockalla, Atlantic Drive, Horn Head, Carrickfin, Glengesh Pass, Sliabh League and Barnesmore Gap all within the 40 hours time limit.
Last year many competitors used this event as preparation for the Race Around Ireland and longer distance ultra events such as RAAM. The event is open to solo racers, 2-person, 3/4 person and 6-8 person teams. While the solo category is aimed at serious athletes, the team categories are very open to cyclists of all abilities. Racers in the team categories cycle in a relay format (not in a pair/team of four together, etc) with frequency of change over being at the discretion of the team and crew.
