CANADA MAN / WOMAN XTREME TRIATHLON
SleepMonsters to Cover New CanadaMan Xtreme Tri
Press Release / 07.02.2017
SleepMonsters has a long association with Canadian race organisers Endurance Aventure so when they announced a new Xtreme Tri in Quebec for July we were keen to cover the race – we know it will be good!
Xtreme Triathalon has been growing in recent years, building on the legendary reputation of Norseman which began 15 years ago and here in the UK with Celtman growing year on year.
CanadaMan is now added to the growing list and Quebec’s wild terrain is the perfect location. The race will be based in Lac Megantic and sets off at dawn with a 3.8km swim in the waters of the lake.
This is followed by 180km of biking along the Route des Sommets (with 2500m of climb), and the finish is a run up Mont Megantic, a 1200m climb to the summit observatory. The race offers competitors a chance to reach for the stars, and the challenge to finish before midnight.
An international field of competitors has been assembled and among them will be multisport athlete Chris Stirling of the UK. He’ll be tackling the inaugural race and also reporting for SleepMonsters on the event and his experiences in Quebec.
Chris has placed 2nd at the 2014 and 2015 Celtman races and finished the mighty Norseman. He won the Ben Nevis Braveheart race last year as well and is looking forward to the challenge of CanadaMan.
“My first ever triathlon was The Celtman! in 2012, we arrived in Torridon pretty clueless about triathlon, looking for an adventure and I came away with one of the best experiences of my life. It was more than a just race, it was life changing and unforgettable.” He said. “It brought me closer to friends, I made new friends for life and a gained a connection with a beautiful, wild environment and welcoming community. So to get to experience another race that shares the same values is wonderful opportunity.
“There is something about these races that brings people together in a way you just don't get with many others and that's why I love them so much. I think it takes a unique combination of location, local community and race difficulty/challenge to achieve this and I am sure this race will have all the elements to make this happen. With Canada and Lake Megantic as the back drop it’s going to be a great adventure!
“Luckily my home in the Lake District provides the perfect training ground for these races, so I am looking forward to the next few months preparing for Canada Man Extreme Triathlon. It can’t come soon enough!”
The race takes place on July 9th and we’ll follow Chris’ preparation up to the race including racing Celtman just 3 weeks earlier.
