The 5th chapter of the Merrell Transkei Tuff presented by Out The Green Box is a mere six months away and is grabbing the attention of Adventure Racers from around the country.
From 20th – 22nd March 2020 you can expect all the action to unfold in and around Coffee Bay, Wild Coast. With hundreds of kilometres of options, 2020 will see the race move further up the coast into this adventure rich region, back dropped by the world renowned “Hole-in-the-Wall” and many other jaw dropping features that this region is known for. “We are excited to bring the race to Coffee Bay as there is just so much to offer athletes and teams. Not just the terrain, but the rich Xhosa culture that is intertwined with the beauty of the Wild Coast”, shares Race Director Bruce Viaene.
Race HQ will be at Ocean View Hotel, situated against the Mapuzi Cliffs that so defines the Wild Coast. All rooms, most of which boast spectacular views of the sea, are very comfortably furnished and have en-suite bathrooms. Spacious family units look out across the sub-tropical gardens. Ocean View Hotel epitomises adventure and is a perfect partner for the Merrell Transkei Tuff.
The 150km race will take teams along deep canyon treks, kayaking amongst indigenous mangrove lined rivers, mountain biking ancient cattle paths and abseiling a few meters from the ocean, all while self-navigating with maps and compasses as did the many ship wrecked sailors of old who washed up on these very beaches.
Coffee Bay is community focused, with many of our transitions and legs are supported by the local entrepreneurs of the area. “I look forward to working with the amazing people of Coffee Bay to bring this race to life. We have been welcomed with open arms and big smiles by everyone, and I look forward to introducing teams from across South Africa to this special place”, shares race organiser Trystan Viaene.
