A Passion for Schools and Adventure
Press Release / 23.09.2019
The Cape St Francis Resort, situated in the Kouga region, is the host venue for the South African Schools Adventure Racing Championships from the 22nd to 23rd September 2019.
For the third time in the competition it will be hosted by Kinetic Events.
The event taking place this weekend is the culmination of the Provincial Schools Championships held around the country. The Provincial Competition sees organizers in every Province host a regional event each with their own course design and unique location. There are up to 20 teams entered in both Primary (under 15 years) and Senior (older than 15 years) categories at each regional event.
School Teams from all over South Africa will compete for the ultimate prize and title of South African Schools’ Adventure Racing Champions – and the competition is going to be tough.
Director of Kinetic Events, Heidi Muller “We are extremely excited to be hosting South African Championships again this year and we are looking forward to meeting all the young adventures and share our love for the sport with them. This is a fantastic opportunity for school teams to race together in the magnificent Kouga Region.”
The Adventure racing concept is a multi-discipline endurance sport where competitors compete in teams, navigating from control point to control point in a number of disciplines including mountain biking, trekking, kayaking and orienteering. Teams navigate using a map, compass and landmarks.
Kinetic Events is very impressed with the 36 Teams entered for the event across all age groups. Stephan Muller, who designed the course for the SA Schools Championships was pleased with the great interest shown “The number of teams entered is great and a very positive sign for the sport of adventure racing. It is good to see the schools support and develop adventure racing at this level. These are the future adventure racers and it’s extremely positive to see the levels of involvement this year.”
Both Heidi and Stephan have several years’ experience in hosting national and international adventure racing events and certainly bring their passion and experience to both the Provincial and South African Championship events.
“It’s all about sharing the experience and love of the outdoors”, said Heidi. “These school teams are going to be challenged and will have to work hard and together as a team throughout the race”
This year also sees the introduction and use of a live tracking system for all the teams. “We are pleased to be using the SPOT Gen 3 trackers for the live tracking. Not only is this an essential safety component to the race, but also allows supporters to follow their teams’ progress live during the race.” explained Stephan.
This will certainly add a level of professionalism to the school event. Follow the live tracking here www.kinetic-events.live
Adventure Racing is certainly an ultimate sporting discipline incorporating various individual and team components. Individuals improve their physical strength and conditioning, build sound navigational and awareness skills and excellent teamwork dynamics, all whilst having the opportunity to be outdoors.
The future of adventure racing looks very promising – thanks to the commitment and combined organisation of those that share a passion for schools and adventure.
