In 2014 Huairasinchi hosted the Adventure Racing World Championship, crossing the high Andes at latitude 0, with one checkpoint placed on the equator.

A decade later, in November 2024, Huairasinchi will host the ARWC again, and this time the race will be different. Teams will embark on an unforgettable journey of 700 kilometers of magnificent bio-diversity in the southern regions of Ecuador. The race will have jungle, mountains, rivers, lakes and coastline, without any prolonged exposure to high altitude. This multi-day endurance event promises to take teams on a transformative experience, blending culture, competition, and camaraderie in an unprecedented way.

Organized by Proyecto Aventura, the 2024 Huairasinchi Adventure Race marks an incredible milestone of two decades. Over the span of 20 years, Proyecto Aventura has stood at the forefront of reshaping adventure racing in Ecuador, offering a platform for the boldest spirits to test their limits.

Speaking about the award of the World Championship to Ecuador the ARWS CEO, Heidi Muller, said;

“Huairasinchi has staged more ARWS Qualifiers than any other event and has a reputation as one of the most beautiful and challenging races in the series.  Many teams have Ecuador on their bucket list and they can be sure the organization at Proyecto Aventura will put all of their expertise from 20 years of organizing expedition races into the 2024 World Championship.

“I also know how passionate they are about showing visitors the incredible diversity in nature and culture in Ecuador, and that the race will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore this amazing country.”

Nestled in the heart of South America, Huairasinchi invites thrill-seekers and adventurers to explore Ecuador's stunning landscapes. This isn't just a race; it's a fully immersive experience that will propel teams on an unparalleled expedition. Racers will encounter rugged paths, the lofty Andes, and an immersion in the untamed beauty of jungle and cloud forests.

Where Culture and Adventure Collide

The adventure kicks off in the enchanting region of Southern Ecuador. This beautiful region is adorned with colonial architecture and a fusion of indigenous and Spanish influences. Teams will traverse cobblestone streets while retracing the steps of ancient Cañari civilizations.

From Peaks to Depths: Embrace the Thrill

Teams will use pre-Hispanic trails across the Andes to reach lower lands.  The Huairasinchi course will guide teams into the lush embrace of the lowlands – a mosaic of jungle and cloud forest that demands adaptability and resilience.

Prepared for Triumph:

Huairasinchi isn't just an event; it's a life-altering journey. Whether you're an experienced adventurer or a newcomer seeking the ultimate test of courage, this race promises the adventure of a lifetime.  As well as the full 700km World Championship course, there will be a 350km Adventure course.

As the Adventure Racing World Championship 2024, it motivates you to leave your mark among the world's boldest adventurers, all while surrounded by the mysteries of nature.

Race Director Santiago López encouraged teams to take up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

¨We are thrilled to plan a magnificent event with a totally new route in unexplored locations in southern Ecuador. The experience we acquired in the past World Championship will help us to create a dream event in one of the most diverse places on earth. Culture, nature and wild terrain will be part of an expedition you will never forget.¨
