Perfect Conditions And A Fast Start

The second edition of the new but extremely well received Adventure Race Croatia is under way! 41 mixed teams set out on a three to four day adventure from the heart of the Croatian coast, the famous island of Pag. The only thing that spoiled the feeling of punishing adventure ahead was the beautiful Mediterranean weather, but nobody was fooled, true racing started right from the start!
Two legs of ARC 2019, the initial 30 kilometers long kayak leg and a 40km trek, are behind the fastest teams. The Adriatic sea was calm, but 30 kilometers in a sit-on-top kayak is no joke. Neither was the long, mostly uphill trek. Technical and with more than one obvious route, it was first true challenge for the teams.
Right from the beginning, two French teams Hoka One One and Absolu Raid Occitanie, along with Swedish USWE Adventure Team and Czech Black Hill Salomon put a hurt to the other teams. Twelve hours into the race the tempo was still strong but the Swedes were left behind in the last part of a long trekking leg.
Also, almost unbelievably, after ten hours of racing Black Hill and Hoka One One were separated by less than a minute! As we know, ARCC 2019 is 500 kilometers long and it's still the early stages, but the favourites are setting a punishing pace. Having said that, it's worth mentioning that there are other ambitious teams chasing the leaders like the French Raidsadventure.fr or the Polish team Adventure-Trophy.pl who are just behind.
Entering the first night of racing are many other experienced teams. A total of 41 from 17 countries, including local heores Space Goats (who, many suspect but is still unconfirmed, misspelled Scape Goats). Many tests are still to come so stay tuned and follow Adventure Race Croatia 2019.
