Two Swedes, One Norwegian And One Austrian Walk Into A (Beach) Bar...
Press Release / 13.09.2019

Swedish team USWE Adventures are winners of the second Adventure Race Croatia! Helen Westerberg, Jacob Westerberg, Magnus Woxholtt-Jensen and Felix Breitschädel expanded their overnight lead of 40 minutes to more than an hour and a half at the end of the last, 14km kayak leg of ARC 2019. French teams Raidsaventure.fr-Absoluraid and Hoka One One came to Pakoštane together. Absoluraid as second, Hoka as third, while most of the teams were still hours (or in few cases a day or more) away from the finish.
USWE Adventure team may seem young and new, being formed just three years ago, but they are experienced racers competing in adventure racing, X- raids and mountain marathons for more than ten years. One key member, we suspect, was their navigator, the Austrian orienteer from Norway Felix Breitschädel. Velebit is a true maze of a mountain and the surrounding rivers, caves and canyons are tricky to traverse but the USWE navigation was perfect.
And so were their tactics. When you have adventure racing powerhouses like Black Hill or Absoluraid breathing down your neck there is no room for errors. Again, the (half) Swedes have outsmarted every other team at ARC 2019. Well done!
Congrats to Raidsaventure.fr-Absoluraid and Hoka One One. They were fighting in the leading pack for most of the race and managed to lose Czech team Black Hill Salomon and compatriots from Absolu Raid Occitane in the early hours of Friday the 13th.
Being an ARWS race, ARC 2019 is still very much on and more than 30 teams are still fighting for ARWS points (and also prestige and everlasting glory). The time limit is 103 hours and nothing is decided from 5th place down. Team 400 is threatened by two Scandinavian teams who are realy fast in the finish of the race, Uppsala Multisport and Multisport.fi, and two Polish teams are still going strong so keep following ARC 2019!
