The ARWS Africa Series Begins at Swellendam this Weekend

The Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) Africa regional races for 2022 kick off this weekend in the picturesque Swellendam area, an area is perfectly suited to the various disciplines of Adventure Racing.
The start and the finish will be at the Kambati resort, which lies on the banks of the Breede River. Kambati River Resort is situated on an Overberg farm next to Breede River and the resort is well known for Camping, Glamping and Special Events.
“We are very priviledge to have the Western Cape leg of this prestigious Adventure race on the farm. We look forward to having all the contestants here to enjoy the amazing Breede River and Langeberg Mountains area around Swellendam. Let the adventure begin!” Said Jaco Badenhors, owner of Kambati River Resort.
With 1 day to go to the start of the 2022 Adventure racing World Series the excitement amongst all racers is mounting. 35 Teams will check into registration and briefing on Friday night, standing together on the starting line early Saturday morning.
Team Songlines was crowned the Champions for 2021 and they will be defending their African title and will be the team to beat. A great mix of experience will be on the starting line with lots of first time racers joining in.
“To host another adventure race in these times is just wonderful. We take extra care with our routes and spend time planning so that our predicted times can assist teams with their food and water requirements for each leg. The goals for the event is to get most teams over the finish line and to ensure that they have had a great adventure”, said Heidi Muller of Expedition Africa.
She added, “The teams will face extreme heat on race day and will need to look after themselves. The 60km route will see the top teams reaching the finish line by midday and we expect the 120km teams to come in from 7pm until the following morning. They will be greeted with a beer and a meal, live music band and great atmosphere!
“Let’s escape our daily lives and share a weekend of adventure with like minded friends. The 2022 calendar is waiting and with a perfect partner like Merrell trail running shoes we are super excited for the year.”
Expedition Africa will host all the teams with a hearty breakfast on Sunday followed by the prize giving function.
