The Manu National Park, Amazon Rainforest, Peru, 1st June 2023 - The Jungle Ultra, a flagship event in the prestigious BTU Global Race Series, is gearing up to push the boundaries of human endurance once again. Renowned as one of the most challenging races on the planet, this event will test the mental and physical boundaries of competitors as they push themselves through sweltering trails, deep in the Amazon Rainforest. It promises to inspire and captivate followers around the world once again.

Spanning the untamed and treacherous terrain of the jungle, the race consists of five stages, covering 230 kilometers over 5 days. Athletes, who are self-sufficient throughout, will navigate through dense vegetation, slick mud, and river crossings whilst battling sweltering heat, suffocating humidity, and steep elevation changes along the way. With a total ascent of over 5,000 meters, the Jungle Ultra pushes runners to their limits, demanding unparalleled strength, endurance and mental resilience. In any given year, only 40% of competitors are expected to complete the full course.

Race Director Kris King spoke about the challenges that await the participants. He said, "The Jungle Ultra is a real test of character and determination. The combination of humidity, heat, rough terrain, and relentless obstacles, including over 70 water crossings, makes this one of the toughest races out there. We designed the course to push the boundaries of human endurance, but also to showcase the incredible capabilities of these athletes."

Among the competitors looking to conquer the course is Spencer Matthews, adventurer and reality television star. Spencer’s fearless spirit and relentless determination have propelled him through numerous challenges. With his experience from the BTU Ice Ultra, Marathon Des Sables, and unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries, Matthews is expected to make a strong impact in the Jungle Ultra.

Gabriella Mathisen, a one armed athlete from Norway, known for her passion and determination for supporting and inspiring others to embark on their own extraordinary journeys, is poised to leave her mark on the race too. With an indomitable spirit, Mathisen has faced her own adversity head-on, emerging stronger and more determined.

Jonny Pain, a seasoned hybrid athlete and coach, will also be a strong contender. Pain has proven time and again that he possesses the grit and determination to excel in demanding

environments. He is currently on track to be the first athlete ever to have completed the full Global Race Series within 12 months. This includes the Ice Ultra in the Arctic Circle, the Mountain Ultra in the Tian Shan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan, the Desert Ultra in the Namib Desert and the upcoming Jungle Ultra in the Amazon Rainforest.

Race followers from around the world can follow the journey of the Jungle Ultra through our official race website and social media Instagram,Facebook and Twitter.
