ARWC 2015 Brazil - Pantanal
Team Peak Performance Ready for the Brazilian Wilderness
Press Release / 13.11.2015
720 kilometers. 30 teams. Only one gold. This year’s most epic adventure – the Adventure Racing World Championships – kicks off on Saturday. Among deadly animals and in tropical heat, Team Peak Performance will run, cycle and paddle their way to the top.
The battle is fought in the wetlands of Pantanal in western Brazil. Teams from all over the world come here to race during five days and nights and try to reach the prestigious podium places in this year’s toughest adventure race. Team Peak Performance is humbled by the task ahead. They are well aware that a lot can go wrong in the Brazilian wilderness.
"We’ve been to a lot of dangerous places, but this probably beats all records. Here are jaguars, wild pigs, crocodiles, snakes… This is as close to an Indiana Jones movie that you can get", says team captain Mikael Lindnord.
"This race is very much ”back to basics. It’s a little bit old school which is cool – the organisers has no regulations for sleep or rest and no “dark zones”. We get to race whenever we want, and rest whenever we want. First to cross the finish line wins. There is nothing strange about this competition.
With a second place from the World Series race in Chile this summer, Team Peak Performance goes into this competition full of expectations. The team, consisting of Mikael Lindnord, Staffan Björklund, Marika Wagner and Jonas Andersson, are well-knit. They only just finished a training camp in Turkey.
"We have the tactics ready. And of course we dream about winning the gold. But talking about placement is very hard. First of all we have to finish this race. We can’t plan too much. There is always something that throws all the plans aside", says Lindnord.
