The classic Sprint series - C3fit Bonaqua Action SPRINT Trail Series is back and the first leg - Repulse Bay is fast approaching and will be held on April 14 (Friday). With the new shorter distance categories of 9km and 14km, the course is not only featuring natural trail and hilly terrains but also waterway and cement roads to meet different runners’ preference.

Irish runner Frank Pilkington enrolled in the entire C3fit Bonaqua Action SPRINT Trail series. He said: “I started running in 1983 and I have joined about 20 Action Asia Sprint races, the first race was in Repulse Bay in 2011,” The 75-year-old trail running enthusiast also shared: “Trail running has opened up a whole new world for me and most of my friends and my social life are in some way connected with trail running. I have no problem fitting running into my daily routine, as I can run almost anywhere in Hong Kong and at any time during the day or night.”

Another overseas runner, Sarah Green, also registered for the whole SPRINT series this year. She said: “My first race was the C3fit Bonaqua Action SPRINT Trail Series - Discovery Bay.  I had so much fun on this race that I credit it with giving me the trail running “bug”! Since then, I have participated in many Action Asia Events races, including the MSIG series and the Nepal Ultra 2016. The variety of distances means there is a good opportunity to “build up” to more complex routes, in order to become a better runner. This is the first time I will be racing in the Repulse Bay SPRINT though. I’m looking forward to it!” Green shared with us how she balances the running and work: “As much as time allows, daily work and training complement one another. I like to relax and clear my head at the weekend by hiking in the mountains. I do other fitness activities in the week to maintain an all-round lifestyle and avoid over-training on running. For me, running is supposed to be fun, so I train enough but not too much that it becomes a laborious chore!”

A 19-year-old local runner from the North Face Explorers team, David Lee Tai Wei, hopes to obtain a better result in the coming race. He shared: “I was encouraged by my primary school classmate and in my first long-distance running race I won my very first award. It was a 30km race so I got foot pain for a whole week after the race but I was deeply fond of trail running since then.”

C3fit Bonaqua Action SPRINT Trail Series has been organized for 14 years. Action Asia Events is dedicated to creating diversified and challenging routes. Runners are given the opportunity to set foot on trails that are rarely experienced and explore the suburbs outside of the concrete city. It is definitely a great opportunity for physical and mental challenges.

The course is divided into two laps and 9km runners will only need to finish the first lap. All runners set off from Repulse Bay beach and sprint back after a short run on beach, then climb on Violet Hill for the first lap, and go downhill through Wilson Trail. Next, 14km runners will run to the Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir and start the second lap, and turn back through the Tai Tam Reservoir Road. At last they return to Repulse Bay from the opposite direction to back the start point.

The event is possible due to the generous support of presenting sponsor C3fit and Bonaqua and supporting partners: LIFEPROOF, Action X Store, Aquarius, HOKA ONE, HKRI, OL&N, and the Action Asia Foundation.
