Ziener BIKE Festival Willingen
35,500 visitors – the 20th Ziener BIKE Festival Willingen again a success
Press Release / 22.05.2017
With two decades of mountain bike exhibitions in the books the Ziener BIKE Festival Willingen keeps on writing its great track record. Over the least weekend (May 19 - 21), Germany's biggest outdoor fair attracted once again more than 35,000 spectators to the Upland region to check out the latest products and developments – despite some rainy conditions on the first event day.
About 150 exhibitors representing some 300 brands transformed the parking area of the Ettels Mountain gondola into a huge trade fair showcasing some of the finest novelties. In addition, more than 3,000 active mountain bikers and cyclists capitalised on the biggest sport programme the festival ever had. Besides the Rocky Mountain BIKE Marathon, the flagship event of European marathon racing with more than 1,800 registered participants, the inaugural road bike event called Warsteiner Sauerland-Giro was also staged.
In addition, the German MTB Enduro Championships were hosted in Willingen as part of the SCOTT Upland Enduro for the first time ever while the Bosch eMTB Challenge supported by Trek, the Panaracer Gravel-Ride, the second stop of the iXS European Downhill Cup, the CAMELBAK Pump Battle as well as the SCOTT Junior Trophy, a race for the up-and-coming talents, rounded out the full package of side events.
"We are proud that we were able to organise the biggest sport programme for the 20th anniversary of the festival we have ever had here in Willingen. By stepping up our game with more side events and hosting the first ever road bike event we have once again made another big step towards a bright future. The great number of exhibitors, participants and visitors also shows that the Ziener BIKE Festival Willingen is one of the most respected events of the cycling industry," said Mathias Ley, CEO of the Hamburg based organising event company Ley Events GmbH.
