TOUR Transalp
Fifth Stage of TOUR Transalp Called Off Due To Bad Weather
Press Release / 28.06.2017
Facing a severe weather situation in Italy and in reference to the safety of the participants, tomorrow's fifth stage of the 15th TOUR Transalp which was supposed to lead from Livigno over 109.26 km and 2,429 metres of climbing to Aprica, has been officially cancelled by Event Organisers.
“The weather forecast doesn't look good at all for tomorrow. In addition, thunderstorms are expected for the Mortirolo Pass. We don't want to expose our participants to this danger and therefore agreed on calling tomorrow's stage off,” explained Race Director Marc Schneider.
Before, the fourth leg of the one-week road race for teams of two had also fallen victim to the current weather situation in Northern Italy with the stage being cut short and annulated at Umbrail Pass.
Tomorrow would have brought three more climbs up to more than 1,800 metres.
Due to the stage cancelation, the TOUR Transalp team organised a shuttle service to bring all cyclists, their luggage as well as road bikes to Aprica, where the sixth and penultimate stage of this year's classic will kick off at 9 AM CEST with direction Pieve di Ledro.
