Matthew Le Bolloch From Magog Wins The Sprint Triathlon Of The Canada Man/Woman

Lac-Mégantic, July 8, 2017. The cloudy sky and humid weather had no impact at all on the energy of the 160 athletes who faced the challenge of the first Extreme Sprint Triathlon of the Canada Man/Woman. The start was given at 9 h this morning for the first part of this Sprint, which was 750 m swim, back and forth in Mégantic Lake, from the Baie des Sables Beach.
They then had to ride for 20 km on their bike on a section of the race course of the Extreme Canada Man/Woman Triathlon, towards Piopolis, where they had to climb many hills with a good positive drop.
They finish this Sprint under a heavy rain with 5 km run on swampy and muddy trails. Matthew Le Bolloch from Magog lead the race all the way, winning the race overall with a time of 1 h 18 min 11 s. He dominated right from the start, finishing the swimming section in 9 min 47 s, 2 min 39 ahead of his nearest competitor. "I tried to start fast in the swim in order to take a small advance. This worked well and I was not worried for the rest of the race. The lake was nice, no waves, I was quite happy."
Éric Lachance-Tremblay from Longueuil took the second position with a time of 1 h 23 min 17 s, with Timothée Petit from Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, not far behind, who passed the finish line with a time of 1 h 23 min 38 s. On the women side, Maïté Galipeau-Théberge from Frontenac took the lead with a time of 1 h 30 min 9 s. Karine Hallé from Quebec finished with a time of 1 h 34 min 24 s and Nadia Gosselin from Montréal followed few seconds behind with a time of 1 h 34 min 57 s.
This first Extreme Sprint Triathlon of the CanadaMan/Woman ended up with a very heavy rain, but all the athletes crossed the finish line with a big smile, proud of themselves.
It's at 4:30 am July 9 that the athletes of the Canada Man/Woman Extreme Triathlon will enter the waters of Mégantic Lake for this first challenge. This will be the beginning of a very long but exalting day where they will have 15 hours to reach the Parc du Mont-Mégantic and the observatory, wishing to reach the stars before midnight.
