Nordic Champ Triumphs on Balkhus Route

The 13th Edition of Hero MTB Himalaya has finally commenced. The 650 KM Race was flagged off today 9 am at the Ridge Maidan. 90 riders were flagged off at the historic Ridge maidan by the Honb'l Governor of Himachal Pradesh, His Excellency Acharya Dev Vrat.
The riders began the 67.5 km journey from the historic Bhalku road at Mashobra, named after a local sage who was a visionary beyond his time.
This beautiful section of the stage took the riders through one of the densest pine forest of the world, 5.5 km of single track and finally ended at the most scenic campsite of the race - Gada Kuffer.
Thomas Engelsgjard from Norway, who is the current Nordic King emerged as the winner of the stage with the time of 2hrs 40 mins and 40 seconds. He is the winner of Glacier 360 race and is a SAKDIXTREME. It is his first participation in the race and it is interesting to notice his excellent performance inspite the breakdown of his bike in transit from Norway to India. He is followed by Adria Noguera from Spain and rides for Buff Scott, MTB team.
Former champion Cory Wallace finished at 2hrs 52 mins 59secs on fourth position, it will be interesting to see how the current 24 hr world champion(Cory Wallace) competes against boys from Buff Scott who have emerged as the favorites this season.
Isaac Rai from the SSB team was the first Indian National to reach the finish, and was ranked 14th.
