The runner Montse Urbea defined with these significant words her participation to the 2016 edition in Nepal, together with her partner Sito Castelló.

She mentioned them during the presentation of the Everest Trail Race by the Elements Pure Coconut Water, sportive event that will take place next November. Last year, Sito and Montse completed together this wild and self-sufficient race, which has definitely marked them for life.

The sportive challenge is tough and exhausting for all the participants. The numbers tell everything: 160km distributed along 6 stages, and more than 30,000 meters of total elevation gain, always with the world’s highest mountains near the runners.

“The human dimension of the race is outstanding. The companionship among everyone, everyday, and emotions on edge”, explained Montse to the presentation attendees, around 50. Some of them have decided to join the ETR 2017 edition, and had doubts on how to face such a challenge.

The former runners, the Race Director Jordi Abad, and Cesar Lozano -member of the medical team- answered their questions, from their experiences and expertises.

“You should take a good sleeping bag. The nights are cold, we almost reached five below zero last year. Don’t wear anything new in the race, but try all the equipment in your usual training environments, to avoid unexpected problems”, answered Sito Castelló when asked about the required equipment and material.

The race director, Jordi Abad, explained that “You have to run or walk; we’ll take care of all the other things”. The Everest Trail Race provides the track, the food, the water, and an itinerant camp at the end of each stage. The runners must carry on all the personal equipment and sleeping bag for the 6 stages. The reason is very simple. The race track is only accessible by helicopter or hiking. If the climatology is unfavourable, the runners must have all the equipment they might need.

The runners will travel to Kathmandu at the beginning of November, and will start the first stage on Nov. 9th in Jiri. Some elite athletes have already confirmed the participation at the ETR 2017, such as

Luis Alberto Hernando. In fact, he already joined the event in 2013, and he is the current world championship in the Sky Runner World Series, Ultra modality.

Within the women;'s category, the Sweden runner Elisabet Barnes, who has won two times the Marathon des Sables, will participate for the first time in the 2017 Everest Trail Race.
