Rapid Ascent are excited to launch the Eagle Bay Epic Adventure Race on 7-8 November 2020 in south-west Western Australia.

The revolutionized challenge will be held at Western Australia’s birthplace of adventure racing, in and around Eagle Bay, Dunsborough, Meelup Regional Park and Geographe Bay.

This new event is an evolution of the previous Anaconda/Augusta Adventure Fest which holds a rich 14-year history and was regarded as the World’s Biggest Adventure Race for many years.

“The evolution into the Eagle Bay Epic Adventure Race has been designed to keep the courses and event layout new, fresh and exciting for all participants,” said Rapid Ascent Race Director John Jacoby.

“Each course takes in the best of the best natural wilderness of Meelup and the south-west and we can’t wait to see some exciting racing take place,” added Jacoby.

The event follows a similar format to the Augusta event, including three different adventure races that showcase the rugged and pristine coastline encompassing the area.

A must-do for any adventure racer, the Leeuwin Long Course will challenge the finest athletes with a non-stop course over four disciplines including a 23km mountain bike, 2km ocean swim, 13.5km paddle, and 12.5km trail run.

"Regarding the current COVID-19 situation in Western Australia, Rapid Ascent are VERY confident that this event will go ahead on the planned date and format in November given WA’s terrific performance in containing the virus and its’ successful roadmap so far."

The Naturaliste Short Course offers a steppingstone into the sport of adventure racing and is best suited to new off-road converts, social teams and younger participants, with a 13km mountain bike, 1.2km ocean swim, 5km paddle and 7.9km trail run.

Both courses can be entered as individuals or as relay-teams of 2 to 4 participants who might do one leg each.

Carrying the legacy of incredibly popular Junior Survivor Challenge, the Kids Adventure challenge offers kids aged up to 13 years the chance to be part of the adventure weekend with a 4km running and obstacle course.

Each event will start and finish at the Eagle Bay Brewing Co which offers sweeping views out to Cape Naturaliste in Geographe Bay, and provides the perfect venue for the all-important post-race celebrations.

A treat for 2020 entrants at the brewery will be WA’s first ‘Wife’* Carrying Championships designed to provide some simple fun during an epic weekend where one person will carry / piggy back another around an obstacle course as part of a head to head challenge.

Regarding the current COVID-19 situation in Western Australia, Rapid Ascent are VERY confident that this event will go ahead on the planned date and format in November given WA’s terrific performance in containing the virus and its’ successful roadmap so far.

Adventure races are held in high repute by active Western Australians as a result of the spectacular off-road course, the sheer scale and event atmosphere generated, the friendliness and engagement of the locals and the associated media attention attracted.

Rapid Ascent’s Race Directors John Jacoby and Sam Maffett, who as experienced athletes themselves, are committed to the design and delivery of races by competitors, for competitors – and cannot wait to bring this event to life come November.
