Second For Swordfox
Press Release / 06.03.2018
Swordfox have made it across the GODZone finish line in second place after paddling in record time from TA6 to Te Anau.
Many spectators, family and friends gathered to welcome them home after the team had kept everyone on tenterhooks sharing the lead with Yealands Family Wines on several points of the race.
Brent Edwards was instantly ready to munch into a hot Jimmy’s Pie and down a cold Altitude beer.He said the team was totally surprised to discover that Yealands had made a nav error on last nights paddle.
” We went up to the hut when we arrived and said where’s Yealands and the TA lady said you’re are the first ones and we just laughed at her because we were so sure they were there. We just had to have some sleep so we stayed at that hut and of course Yealands kept on going.”
“It took us 17 hours to do the last stage with pretty sore feet,” said Brent Edwards.” We knew Yealands were in front but its pretty hard to get past them on that sort of terrain so we just did what we could.”
Stuart Lynch said it was an awesome experience. “Its been great fun battling with Yealands all the way and our team had a great race,”says Edwards. “We raced really well but Yealands were just that bit better. An awesome adventure and a great bunch of people to race with.”
