200 riders from across Australia will head to Alice Springs next week to line up for The Redback MTB Stage Race held from Thursday 18 August to Sunday 21 August.
After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 there’s a feeling of great anticipation for Australia’s longest running mountain bike stage race – and for good reason too!
With its 13 year history the 2022 event sees a makeover including new stages, new trails, longer rides and plenty of sunshine to enthral riders.
“Alice Springs offers plenty of variety when it comes to trails – long, fast, straight-aways ridden at maximum speed, to technical switch-back climbs,” said Rapid Ascent’s Event Director John Jacoby. “There’s rocky outcrops leading to twisting berm-runs, and undulating trails that will have riders smiling (and sweating) from ear to ear!”
The 2022 event captures all this and plenty more with 6 stages over 4 days of racing.
Each stage is carefully designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers, to take in the best trails of the region, including a number of new trails not previously raced for this years’ event. Stages range from a 300m Hill Climb, a 22km time-trial, to a 49km XC race to round things out.
Riders are guaranteed to be treated to a unique landscape in a desirable holiday destination that encapsulates the infinite network of trails through the Red Centre.
Easy race logistics allow competitors roll to the start lines with no car or support crew needed; and then have them sitting back by the pool in the afternoon and sharing stories from the mornings’ stage.
Past participant Pamela who raced in 2019 shares, “The Redback trails are like no other and the landscape is so different to the rest of Australia. I really did find that every day my skills improved and I can’t wait to be part of the event again.”
The event would not be possible without the support from the NT Government which has helped event promoters Rapid Ascent market the event at a national level.
