XVI Red Fox Adventure Race
From Russia...
Carrick Armer / 12.06.2017
The Czech AR team have now crossed the line as the final full course team, concluding (well, pretty much) the AREC2017. They finished happy and strong, though when asked for a comment on the race to the waiting spectators they ere short and to the point: "the kayaking was (expletive deleted) long".
As for the other tail end teams, AdventureJunkie and Katusha were both brought in by boat and Squirrel Squad are currently sat out on one of the islands out on the water, presumably waiting for the same boat for a pick up. They stand no chance of paddling back to base in the next 20 mins before the course closes!
As the final few teams in the Red Fox 48hr race continue to arrive, tired and weary, at the finish, all that is left for the European teams is the closing ceremony at 3pm and the journey home. The response to the race has been overwhelmingly positive, the Scandinavian teams feeling right at home in the thick forest and rocky islands, and there was even a vote of thanks to the organisers from the Danish teams for providing boats with comfortable seats. The campsite is slowly emptying, and everyone seems to have a faint, tired, smile on their faces, though the on-site sauna is keeping the Russian welcome nice and warm, even after 13hrs of kayaking.
We'll publish the full results as soon as we have them, but for now, from Russia, with love.
